There are various things you can do with email marketing, from simply providing a newsletter, to a cheat sheet or even collecting names to a mailing list or even providing information such as a PDF.

What I’m going to go through here is the essentials of what you need to set up, from collecting the data (Name, Email ( Phone number) Address etc) to where to send that information and to continue communicating to a lead/customer or someone who is interested in your business, service or product you are selling.

I’ll also divulge a little into how to keep your customer engaged, there’s a bit of a ‘nack’ to it, but it really isn’t that hard.

WordPress Optins & Forms

So let’s start with Pop ups and Forms. As the name suggests a Pop up is simply a form, usually small, that comes up after a short period of time or once a link is clicked.

A pop up form will often consist of 2, 3 or more fields where someone can input their name, email or phone number etc.

Whether you use a pop up form or a standard static form, this is the first set in collecting someone’s information so you can ultimately build up a relationship with them over time, and even potentially make more sales or get new leads.

Here are my Favourite Lead and Optin Plugins for WordPress

Poptin

One of my favourite plugins I have found to use with wordpress is Poptin.

I have found it very easy to use, it has a nice User Interface, and the pricing is very reasonable with a free 1000 visitors per month to get you up and running. It even as an auto responder should you wish to use this.

Poptin specializes in creating popups, Optins, forms, and autoresponders that are easy to integrate and set up into any website.

Also as it offers an auto-responder option, it pretty much gives you everything you need.

Optinly

Optinly is a service I used quite recently, but in all honesty with hit and miss results. This plugin frustrates me quite a bit, it has such a great potential, yet it hasn’t been able to fill me with confidence that I works fully.

To to begin with the positives, it has great user interface, and is very easy to use and set up forms.

You can easily set up pop ups, position anywhere on the page/post, and also create triggers to bring the form up, or even make it timed.

However, the problem lies with the lack of consistency of how and when the forms work and load.

I have been able to create 3 ways of collecting data, pop up, trigger and also footer form, sometimes it works perfectly and on other ages, it won’t show at all.

Usually, most reviewers only mention the perfect and best working plugins, I like to share my experiences of what I have used and what I reccomended, even if it means sharing what sometimes isn’t a good review.

Don’t get me wrong, Optinly has much potential, when it works it gives Poptin a run for its money, but for now, it’s not ready yet. (Opinion correct at time of writing).

Optin Monster

OptinMonster is another lead generation software which focuses on converting website visitors into subscribers, leads and potentially customers.

It offers a suite of dynamic marketing tools, including high-converting email capture forms, advanced targeting based on user behavior, and Exit Intent technology, by this it means a pop up or form will appear when the use goes to click on the exit button in the top right.

I have shared what I personally use and also what I know are good plugins/services to use when it comes to from data collection. I have even mentioned one which isn’t quite there yet, and isn’t one I’d recommend, not now at least, but one keeping an eye on.

Ultimately though, when it comes to using plugins for WordPress, no matter what to or goal you using it for, often it is down to personal preference, my aim is to give you a few of the best options I feel will give you the outcome your looking for, but it isn’t until you’ve played around with it personaly you will fully understand what it does and if its right for you.

One of the most essential parts of email marketing is having an autoresponder. With an autoresponder, you can’t communicate with your customers who you have on your emailing list.

The worst thing you can do as a business owner is make a sale or get a lead and then not communicate with them ever again!

Heres one Ive played around with in the past, once again a very popular platform, arguably the most popular.

When I used it I didn’t have any issues, and it pretty much did what it said on the tin!

Aweber offers a great range of tools; from simple email marketing, data collection to autoreponsding, analyzing campaign performance plus managing contacts.

AWeber is an email marketing service provider that focuses on helping send custom professional emails and newsletters.

Aweber does simplify email marketing and has a huge range to offer. I do recommend this as an email marketing tool.

If your new to Email Marketing, I do recommend Aweber as it offers a great low barrier to entry point, with a Free plan available for up to 500 subscribers. So you can get your business up and running with little to no cost until you get traction.

If you want simplicity in an emailing platform then MailerLite is your go to, whether you’re a small business or a growing porffolio of websites..

It’s designed to help you engage your audience with less hassle.

Getresponse is another autoresponder, to be honest there probably isn’t anything massively different to the other offerings above, however, it definitely is an option that is worthy of looking into, as it is a solid platform and is many people’s favourite.

Other WordPress Email Plugins

There are various other Email Marketing plugins that I have used or recommend, Here is my take on them:

SendFox

I can’t help but be impressed by Send Fox. if you haven’t come across Send Fox before, in chart it’s just a simple emailing platform. here you can create emailing sequences after collecting data from a form for example.

Now don’t get me wrong it is nothing spectacular, but you can buy this software on app sumo with a lifetime discount starting at around $49.

This by all means doesn’t replace any of the big hitters like aweber, MailChimp or get response. but it will get you up and running and give the basics what you need to be able to communicate with the leads and potential customers via email Marketing.

When it comes to customer service, it is second to none. the guy I spoke to that not only helps with every single question that I had but often also went the extra yard.

I personally can highly recommend Send Fox, many of you may find that it isn’t quite advanced enough, , which is fine I understand that, but value for money wise, offering the basics is exceptional. Also I hear there is still moe to come with this service.

Linking Email Marketing Together using Zapier.

One of the recent things I have managed to put together is a “Zap”, between the form (data collection) to the autoresponder.

Ive also done it in such a way, to get you started its completely Free!

Only when you start getting traction you will need to start paying

Heres the Process:

Ill try and not get to too technical with this process, but in short, I use Poptin and then forward on all data received onto Sendfox.

As you get Unlimited Zaps with a free account now, this has been recently updated, so do take advantage of this, it means you can set up as many forms, and lists as you like, and don’t have to neccesarily pay anything until your busioness takes off.

In Zapier, simply create a “Zap”, Note with the free plan you can only use 2 step zaps, which is fine for now and will be all you need initially.

Your first Setp will be the Trigger – Poptin

Then 2nd Step will be the Action – Sendfox.

Obviously you have to set it up prior, ie set up the form and then create the list in sendfox, but once they are up and running, you pretty much select the Form name and then link it to the Mailing list in Zapier.

Note: It will ask you to submit test data, like name and email before it completes, but once done Viola!

This is the cheapest way I have found to be able to set up both forms with Mailing. Poptin is free at first, sendfox is a one-off life time price from Appsumo.

But doing it this way means little to no monthly costs. Which is a great thing to have for any business when first starting out 🙂

Email Marketing: My FInal Thoughts

Hopefully, I have covered all there’s is needed to know about Email Marketing, or at least to get you started.

It is said for every 1 customer you have in a mailing list they are worth at least $1 or £1.

So get that list built, build rapport and a relationship with that list and then promote your goods or services to continuously keep earning! 🙂
